Why Give?

We present — free of charge — two Shakespeare plays every Summer while maintaining a professional company of actors that perform throughout our community year-round.

The Festival is committed to presenting Shakespeare’s plays free of charge during our Summer Festival so the whole community can enjoy these great plays in a beautiful setting, together.
But, while the plays are free for you to attend, they are not free to produce.

Each year, our audiences grow as we expand our reach throughout the Albuquerque community and beyond, and there is so much more that we want to do!

*In 2025 we added a fall, indoor production and we want to continue expanding the Festival’s productions throughout the year in this way.

*We want our outreach into the community to grow with more school visits and with an expanded Library Lecture series.

*We want to continue perfecting the quality of our productions.

*We want to create opportunities to get to know you, our audience, better.

Shakespeare’s plays are the most performed in the world — and have been for 400 years — because they speak to people of all races, cultures, backgrounds. Each production brings our community together, at one time and place, to celebrate, not merely Shakespeare, but the concept of community itself.

We have three long-term goals:

Remain the preeminent producer of Shakespeare’s plays in the state of New Mexico, with the highest standards of production, extending throughout the state.
Expand our educational and outreach programs, making Shakespeare’s work fun and accessible for students and curious people of all ages throughout New Mexico.
Enhance the sense of community patrons feel sitting in the theatre watching the shows with opportunities to experience the Festival as Members, who are closer to each other, the Festival Staff, creatives and Board.

The New Mexico Shakespeare Festival (NMSF) is committed to spreading our love of Shakespeare’s work with a year-round program, including our free, summer festival, more productions throughout the year, and our educational and outreach programs, bringing the Bard’s work to classrooms, libraries, and other community centers in Albuquerque and beyond.
